- Holistic Development of Children in Tribal Region of Nagar Kurnool District, Telangana, India
The project titled “Holistic Development of Children in Tribal Region of Nagar Kurnool District, Telangana, India” was initiated by CONARE in October 2022 with the support of Terre Des Hommes (TDH) based in Germany. Following a 3-pronged strategy of ensuring the basic rights of children, empowerment of youth, and facilitating access to social development & justice for the tribal families, the Project is being implemented in 20 tribal villages from Padra, Amarabad, Balmoor and Lingal Mandals in Nagarkunool district.
The first strategy for ensuring the basic rights of children aims to help first-generation learners and children at risk of dropout continue their education, thereby ensuring the right to education to all children in the region. It also focuses on improving the health and nutrition situation of children by bridging the gap between the community’s needs and the available health care system. Further, the participation of children in SDMC and Panchayat is facilitated as a nascent effort under the project.
The second strategy of socio-economic empowerment of adolescents and Young People aims to provide vocational training and orientation on career development to enhance their employability and career prospects and to sensitize them on Sustainable Development Goals to understand and play an active role in charting the sustainable development plans for their region. Vocational training would be a balanced mix of professional courses like tailoring, computer courses, plumbing & electrician, and livelihood training on value addition & marketing of forest produce. Value addition of the forest products like honey, tamarind, Soap nut and other Non-Timber Forest Products will be one of the focuses for socio-economic empowerment. Further adolescent girls will be empowered to become vocal about their demands for development and make decisions regarding their professional and personal lives.
The third and most comprehensive strategy of Social Justice for tribal families aims to enable the tribal communities to access the development and welfare schemes that will not just provide the due employment opportunities and infrastructural facilities but in the long run benefit the Chenchu tribal population to reduce their vulnerability.
